Today

The Desk's landing page. Unread matches and alerts, waiting approvals, setting proposals, and runs that need a look.

What it is

Today (#/today, and every unknown route) lists what needs the viewer now, one primary action per item.

Why it exists

People open the Desk on a phone for a minute. Today answers “is there anything for me?” without opening another page.

How it works

Items, newest first:

  • Messages: Inbox messages of kind match or alert the viewer has not read or marked done. Without a viewer id, one count line replaces them.
  • Approvals waiting: gated messages whose gate is still open (pending doc status waiting, pending or empty) and with no decision.
  • Setting proposals: open proposals, linking to Suggestions.
  • Runs: the last run per producer when it is partial or failed and the viewer has not acknowledged it. Acknowledging writes data/users/<viewer>/state/ack/<runId>. Without a viewer: “Acknowledging needs a viewer id, which this visit does not have.”
  • Last run per producer, always shown at the end.

When nothing qualifies: “Nothing needs you.”

Worked example

Hiring Signals’ Monday run finds two strong fits, raises “Add hydrogen to title_keywords”, and one market failed to load. Today shows two match messages, one Setting proposal, and the run as partial, with Acknowledge.

Common pitfalls

  • Expecting proposal or approval messages under Messages. Only match and alert appear there; the others have their own items.
  • A run acknowledged by one person. Acknowledge is per viewer.
